Newark Choral Society
Barnby Gate Methodist Church, Newark
Come and experience a performance of Stainer & Rev Sparrow-Simpson's meditation on the crucifixion of Christ, The Crucifixion by Newark Choral Society, conducted by Robert-John Edwards with soloists Matthew Burton and Matthew Jordan.
NCS will complete the performance with "Worthy is The Lamb That Was Slain", the glorious finale from Handel's Messiah.
Doors open at 7pm and the performance is expected to last around 75 minutes.

Clark Tracey's Champion of Jazz
The Blue Room at the Lawn
Clark Tracey’s Champions of Jazz Award-winning drummer, bandleader, composer, arranger, veteran of over 90 albums, Clark Tracey and this stellar band pay tribute to his drumming hero, the recently departed Roy Haynes. Clark collected every Haynes recording and transcribed, studied and emulated his style. Roy's signature ‘snap-crackle’ style was a constant in jazz for decades.

Barny is a bass/baritone soloist who lives on the Isle of Axholme. He sings with Scunthorpe Choral Society, the Isle Chamber Choir and Isle Choral Singers. He is rather fond of English art song including: Ralph Vaughan Williams, George Butterworth, Gerald Finzi and John Ireland.

When in Rome... come and sing the music of Palestrina and his Rome contemporaries. Day workshop for voices and Renaissance instruments led by tutors Greg Skidmore (I Fagiolini) and Sue Addison (His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts).

'Think Palestrina only wrote motets to be sung by a cappella choirs? Think again! The music of Palestrina (500 years old this year), and his contemporaries and successors works really well with voices and instruments and we look forward to enjoying a rare opportunity to perform some really beautiful music in this way.'

Lincoln Choral Society presents Will Todd's Mass in Blue. The concert will also feature two other contemporary pieces, Every Day Wonders, The Girl from Aleppo (Cecilia McDowell) and Five Days That Changed the World (Bob Chilcott). These two works will involve local school children's choirs and choral scholars and musicians from Lincoln University. It will be an exciting concert using Lincoln Cathedral's fabulous acoustics.

The Lincoln Renaissance Band are joined by the Lincs Effect from Lincoln Cathedral in a delightful programme of music by G. Gabrieli, Tomkins, Jannequin, Holborne and Gibbons and the newly formed group, Zoffany (recorder, viols and sackbutt).

A European Musical Journey Through the Ages

Sixteen Eighty Five members are delighted to be working again with the Lincoln Branch of Amnesty International in promoting this Midsummer concert of Renaissance and Baroque music and song and raising the profile of the work Amnesty International. The concert features music by Byrd (erstwhile organist at Lincoln Cathedral) and, of course, Handel and JS Bach from whose birth year (1685) we take our name, alongside music by other English, French, German, Italian and Spanish composers.
