BCR: Bringing Bourne Together Through Community Radio

Updated: Mar 17

By Jake Wallhead, Vice-Chair of Bourne Community Radio

Bourne Community Radio (BCR) is more than just a station—it’s a celebration of local voices, music, and stories. Created by and for the people of Bourne, this new station is a hub where residents can connect, share, and engage with everything happening in their town. Whether you’re passionate about music, eager to stay updated on local events, or just love the idea of a station that truly represents your community, BCR is here to welcome you.

A Platform for Local Voices

At its heart, Bourne Community Radio is about giving people a voice. Whether it’s a local band showcasing their latest tracks, an organisation highlighting important causes, or a presenter sharing fascinating interviews, BCR brings together the people who make Bourne special. The station creates a space for open dialogue, where everyone—from young creatives to lifelong residents—can contribute to the soundtrack of the town.

A Journey Built on Passion and Community

Bourne Community Radio was born from the vision of local resident and passionate radio enthusiast Tim Heywood, who sought to create a platform that would serve both Bourne and the surrounding areas. Tim was connected to SoundLincs through his social prescriber to explore how we could help bring his vision to life. A callout was made, and soon enough, a team of dedicated volunteers came together, all sharing Tim’s passion and commitment.

With support and funding from Shine Lincolnshire and South Kesteven District Council, SoundLincs gave provision in finding a broadcasting space, securing equipment, and learning the ins and outs of radio production. By the time the station officially launched in November 2024, the enthusiasm was undeniable—BCR was something Bourne could be proud of.

A Station for Everyone

One of the best things about BCR is its inclusivity. You don’t have to be a radio expert to get involved—just having a passion for music, storytelling, or community engagement is enough. The station offers a variety of ways to participate, from presenting a show to sharing local news or even learning about the technical side of broadcasting.

With a flexible and welcoming approach, BCR ensures that anyone who wants to be part of the station can find their place. Whether you’re tuning in from home, volunteering behind the scenes, or stepping up to the mic, there’s room for everyone.

Looking to the Future

This is just the beginning for Bourne Community Radio. As the station grows, so will its impact. Plans are already in place to expand programming, feature more local talent, and bring even more exciting content to listeners. With ongoing support from the community, BCR aims to be a lasting fixture in Bourne—one that continues to entertain, inform, and inspire. We can’t wait to see its development as it flies the SoundLincs nest.
