SoundLincs' A.M.P. project is a shining example of how the power of music connects and uplifts. Designed with inclusivity and creativity at its heart, A.M.P. offers a welcoming environment for autistic individuals, along with their friends and families, to come together and explore the joy of music. Whether you're interested in making music, learning a new instrument, or simply enjoying the soothing power of sound, this project is here to provide a space for everyone.
Music as a Tool for Expression, Sensory Regulation, and Connection
For autistic individuals, music can be a powerful form of self-expression, sensory regulation, and connection. It offers a unique way to communicate, offering a sense of control and comfort in an environment that fosters creativity. Through music, participants can explore and express their feelings, experiences, and ideas without judgment or expectation.
But it's not just about the individual experience—family members and friends also play an essential role in A.M.P. These sessions provide a valuable opportunity for everyone to engage in a shared experience, fostering deeper bonds and mutual understanding. Through music, families can connect in meaningful ways, building relationships and creating lasting memories together.
A Flexible, Non-Judgmental Approach to Music-Making
Our music facilitators understand that every participant is unique. That's why we embrace all levels of experience and take a flexible, non-judgmental approach to musical involvement. Each A.M.P. session is carefully tailored to meet the specific needs of the group, with activities such as rhythm exercises, song creation, and collaborative sound exploration. This approach allows everyone to express themselves in their own way, ensuring that no one feels excluded or pressured.
At SoundLincs, we are committed to creating inclusive music-making opportunities. Our team has a long history of supporting individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), which includes publishing a SEND Toolkit for music-making to help guide facilitators in creating enriching experiences for all participants.
Supporting Autism and Fostering Community Connections
A.M.P. is made possible through the generous funding of Arts Council England, National Lottery Community Fund, Shine, and the Virtual Autism Hub. The Virtual Autism Hub is a Lincolnshire-based NHS service that provides non-clinical community support for autistic individuals of all ages, as well as their families and carers. The service offers valuable advice, signposting to support groups and services (like A.M.P.), and practical assistance with various tasks.
What’s more, the Virtual Autism Hub operates on an open-door policy—no referral is needed, and individuals can step in and out of the service as needed. You don’t need a formal autism diagnosis to access their support, making it an easily accessible resource for families and individuals seeking guidance and connection.
